How The Dalmatian Got It's Spots

When First Man and First Woman were driven out of the garden ,God gave them four dogs. One dog was big and very protective of First Man, so he was put in charge of the home. One dog had a very long coat and was very good with the sheep. One dog loved to go with the man on the hunt. He would point out where the game was and bring it back. Then there was the fourth dog. He was small and all white. First Man looked at him and said, "Now what is your job little dog?" The little dog just gave the man a big smile and wagged his tail, then ran off to play with the man's child and curl up in front of the fire. The man just shrugged his shoulders and said, "We will see what you can do."

One day a bear came to the cave where they were living and tried to get in. The dog that was protecting them tried to scare him off, but the bear was too big and mean! He snapped and barked and showed him his teeth, but the bear just would not leave. Just when First Man thought all was lost, the little white dog came running. He barked and snapped and ran around the bear 'till the bear didn't know what to do, so he gave up and left. First Man looked at the little white dog and said, "Now I know what your job is, you can help to protect us!" But the little white dog just smiled, wagged his tail and went to play with the child and then he went to lay by the fire.

Then one day some wolves came and scattered the flock. The herding dog had more than it could handle, chasing the wolves and watching the sheep run. Just then the little white dog came running in. In no time at all he had the sheep all rounded up and the wolves gave up. First Man looked at him and said, "Now I know, you can help herd the sheep." But the little white dog just smiled and wagged his tail, went to play with the child and lay by the fire.

A bad time of year came around when no game could be found. "Well little one, perhaps you can be a hunting dog," said the First Man to the little white dog. The little white dog got up, stretched, yawned and trotted after the hunter. Later that day, the hunter came home with all the game he could carry. When the little white dog, who had done a very good job of showing the hunter where all the game had been hiding came in, the First Man said, "You will help with the hunt from now on." But the little white dog just smiled, wagged his tail and went to play with the child and lay by the fire.

One dark and stormy night, First Woman woke-up and found that the child had wandered off. They looked and looked but could not find him. They lighted torches and looked outside, they looked everywhere and still could not find the child. The little white dog put his nose to the ground and started looking! In a very short while he had found the child and barked to let First Man know that he was all right! When they heard the bark, they came running. They were so glad to find the child was safe that they picked up both the dog and the child. Their hands were blackened from the torches and left smudges all over the little white dog's body. God, seeing this, made it so that the spots would not come off.

And that my friends is how the Dalmatian got his spots!!
